Sergio Ramos: Real Madrid sacking Julen Lopetegui would be ‘crazy’

Sergio Ramos claims Real Madrid would be ‘crazy’ to sack Julen Lopetegui after their 1-0 defeat to Alaves but warns ‘writing us off would be a very big mistake’.

“We have to turn the page, the season is very long and there’s a lot of it left,” the defender said after Los Blancos extended their goal drought to over six hours.

“Other people decide whether the Coach needs changing, but it’s not normally a good idea. It would be crazy.

“Sometimes it’s better to change and sometimes it’s not, but it’s too early to talk about that and it’s not a decision for the players.

“Whoever writes Madrid off are wrong in the long run. We’re the first to be frustrated by the situation.

“Maybe without Cristiano our lack of goals are being talked about more, but with him the goals sometimes dried up. The goals will come back.

“I saw good spells from us, when we generated chances. It’s a complicated place to play. We’re the first to say we can do more to improve and that’s what we’re doing.

“It’s not fair to blame anyone. We‘re all aware of the reality. Results speak for themselves and more so when you lose.

“The team have desire, hope and ambition to win. It’s in our DNA.  We’re on the right track, despite the bad results.

“The injuries are what they are, we are what we are and we all have to pull in the same direction.

“There are fans who think we don’t care, but it’s the opposite. We’re the first who want to give them joy. It’d be a very big mistake to write us off.”
