Javier Tebas: La Liga the best League in the world

Javier Tebas believes La Liga is ‘the best League in the world’ and superior to the Premier League when considering the ‘sports to economics’ ratio.

The Premier League dwarfs La Liga in terms of revenue, the English top flight benefitting from a TV deal worth almost €6bn, but Tebas made it clear the Primera was the better division pound for pound.

“We need to look at North America as a key element for growth. The sports industry there is huge compared to others,” he continued to CNN, explaining why Girona-Barcelona needed to be played in Miami on January 26.

“We for sure look at Asia in the medium-run and in the long-run we look at Africa. In the short-run however, we have our efforts placed in the United States.

“I think that economically speaking, the Premier League has better numbers. But in that sports/economics equilibrium which is necessary, I think that we overcome the Premier League.

“Spanish teams have a better performance in European competitions. After evaluating the sports/economics equation, we are the best League in the world.”
