Tottenham forward Erik Lamela has described compatriot Lionel Messi as the world’s ‘best player’ and praised Barcelona’s ‘control in possession’.
The Argentine was part of the Spurs side on the end of a 4-2 defeat against the Catalan club on Wednesday night at Wembley, and he described the toughness of the clash.
“Lionel Messi is incredible, he proves this in every game, not just here,” Lamela told reporters in the mixed zone after the match.
“He is the best player in the world and everyone knows that, regardless of what people may say and he was magnificent again in this game.
“It was a very difficult game for us, they have world class attacking players and they control possession, there is so much quality.
“In that situation they make you run a lot and it can be draining when it is on this level.”
