Ernesto Valverde: Barcelona expecting tough Tottenham test

Barcelona are expecting a ‘very tough’ test against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, boss Ernesto Valverde has confirmed.

The Catalan giants are on a poor run of form – without a win in three league matches – and will face a testing game in London against a Spurs side who lost their opening group game at Inter.

“We always expect the strongest possible opponent and it is no different in London,” Valverde told reporters ahead of the game, as cited by El Mundo Deportivo.

“We are aware they have injury problems but we know they are well balanced, they have strength in both attack and defence, so it will be difficult.

“We knew this group would be dangerous when it was drawn as there are three very tough teams we must face and progression will be difficult.

“Our results have not been good recently and we have analysed each of them separately but we know we must improve every day.

“If results are not going your way there is always the temptation to blame individuals or tactics but sometimes it is due to the strength of the opponent or individual contexts.

“We are in good spirits and we know that even if you win everything, there will be questions and doubters but we are confident in our own ability.”
