Fourteen injured during Eibar stadium incident

The collapse of a fence at Eibar’s Ipurua stadium on Saturday led to fourteen Sevilla supporters sustaining injuries.

Marca reports the incident happened after Ever Banega scored a penalty on the hour mark to give Sevilla a 2-0 lead.

Banega made his way towards the stands where the away fans were situated to celebrate in front of them.

However, a fence holding the supporters broke away, leading to a small stampede that resulted in 30 fans falling pitchside.

Ten were taken to nearby Mendaro hospital, although both clubs have since confirmed that none were seriously injured.

The match was stopped for eight minutes but Sevilla nonetheless regained their composure to beat Eibar 3-1.

Ipurua is the smallest stadium in La Liga, seating just 7,083 spectators, and Marca notes the incident took place in its west stand – the only one to remain untouched since the Basque’s promotion in 2014.
