Barcelona have confirmed they will appeal the red card shown to defender Clement Lenglet in the weekend’s La Liga draw against Girona.
The former Sevilla central defender was dismissed in the 35th minute of Sunday’s clash when the hosts were leading 1-0 but would go on to drop two points.
Referee Gil Manzano decided to dismiss the Frenchman with the benefit of VAR technology after determining Lenglet deliberately elbowed Girona midfielder Pere Pons.
Barca Coach Ernesto Valverde believes it was the ‘wrong decision’ while Pons himself admitted he was surprised by the call.
