La Liga line-ups: Barcelona-Girona

Lionel Messi becomes the foreign player with the most appearances in La Liga history for a revamped Barcelona against Girona this evening.

Messi plays his 423rd game for Barca in the top flight, surpassing ex-teammate Dani Alves, who made 422 appearances for the Blaugrana and Sevilla combined.

He is joined in the XI by summer signings Clement Lenglet, Arthur and Arturo Vidal, with Samuel Umtiti, Ivan Rakitic and Philippe Coutinho all dropping out.

Girona, meanwhile, come into the match on the back of successive wins against Villarreal and Celta Vigo but were thrashed 6-1 the last time they made the short trip to Camp Nou.

The second meeting between the two sides, scheduled for January 27, is currently the subject of controversy as La Liga wants it to be played in the US.
