La Liga Preview: Getafe-Atletico Madrid

Surprise packages Getafe host Atletico Madrid in a mini-Madrid derby, with Los Colchoneros already seven points off the pace in La Liga.

Getafe boss Jose Bordalas on his side’s opponents and the clinical Angel Rodriguez: “We’re facing a great team because Atleti have played at a high level for the last few seasons, not only in La Liga, but also in the last Europa League.

“I’m convinced that Atletico will win the Champions League soon. They’ve grown enormously in recent years and they’re one of the best clubs in Europe. They’ll surely finish in the top three. They’ve got a lot stronger.

“In a football team, no-one is untouchable. Angel Rodriguez is doing very well, but we’re not Angel and 10 others.”

Atleti boss Diego Simeone on what he wants from his misfiring team: ”In the same way that we’ve been conceding more goals, in some games we’ve had those famous possession stats in our favour.

“I prefer that we concede fewer goals and have less possession. We’ve seen growth in our last two games, although tomorrow will be a very complex game.

“With the development of VAR and seeing how Ronaldo was sent off the other night, we have to be very careful with what we’re doing.

“The only thing I have in my head is to improve the team, oversee grow in each game and see the new lads improve, especially Gelson.”
