Diego Simeone believes it is ‘incredible’ for Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano home to host this season’s Champions League final.
The stadium, in the Spanish capital, only opened last season and will host this season’s final, with Atleti hoping to reach the showpiece in the competition for the third time in six seasons.
“It is incredible for this club to have a stadium which will host the Champions League final,” Simeone told reporters on Monday, as cited by Diario AS.
“Even two or three years ago this would have been impossible but that is the situation the club is in now and it gives motivation to the club to continue to raise our levels.
“Our start to the season has had its ups and downs – we have enjoyed strong spells in matches but also periods when things have not gone quite as they are planned.
“We must continue to from match to match and we cannot think beyond the group stages of this tournament, as that is what did for us last season.
“We must continue to improve our performances though, I saw some good things against Eibar but the only thing we know is to keep working and growing.”
