La Liga Week 4: Sevilla break down

Getafe condemned Sevilla to successive defeats in La Liga Week 4, but there were winning returns for Villarreal and Espanyol.

Kicking off Sunday’s action were bottom sides Leganes and Villarreal, the latter of whom bounced back at Butarque with a 1-0 win.

Lega were left to rue a missed Guido Carrillo penalty as Carlos Bacca’s 65th-minute finish was enough for the Yellow Submarine.

Espanyol, meanwhile, moved into the top four with a narrow 1-0 victory over Levante.

There wasn’t much to choose between the two teams, other than Sergio Garcia’s goal in the second half, which left Levante without a win since the opening day.

Neither was there between Real Valladolid and Alaves, although the visitors stole the points in the third minute of injury time.

Ronaldo was watching his first match as Valladolid owner, but it would end in heartbreak for the Brazil and La Liga legend as an Ibai Gomez strike deep in stoppage time salvaged a 1-0 win for Alaves.

Finally, Sevilla slumped to a 2-0 home defeat to Getafe in the evening, courtesy of Angel Rodriguez’s first-half brace.

Despite the Andalusians dominating possession, Los Azulones put on a finishing masterclass, scoring from two of their three attempts on target.
