Inter to return in January for Real Madrid's Luka Modric

Inter will return for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric in January after failing in their summer pursuits, claim reports.

Diario Sport cite a report in Italian media outlet Sport Mediaset that the Croatian midfielder has told his international teammates he still intends to join the Milanese giants.

His compatriots Sime Vrsaljko, Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic all play at the Nerazzurri and this is said to be a key factor in Modric’s intentions of joining the club.

Over summer, Inter are reported to have offered Modric a six-year contract, which would see him play with them for four years, before spending two at their Chinese sister club Jiangsu Suning.

Various reporters say his deal at Madrid is said to have ‘a gentleman’s agreement’ with president Florentino Perez although there is no indication the club were under any obligation to honour this.

The report concludes by stating that such a move would only be possible if Inter remain in the Champions League beyond the group stage, where they are paired with Barcelona and Tottenham.
