Investigation closed into Valencia winger Denis Cheryshev

Valencia and Russia winger Denis Cheryshev has been cleared of a doping violation after anti-doping authorities found no ‘signs of irregular behaviour’.

Spain's anti-doping agency has now closed its investigation after finding no wrongdoing on the part of the 27-year-old, currently on loan at Los Che from Villarreal.

The 27-year-old has spent his entire playing career in Spain with Sporting Gijon, Burgos, Real Madrid, Sevilla, Villarreal and Valencia.

He re-joined Los Che on the back of his exploits at the World Cup, his four goals helping Russia eliminate Spain in the last 16 and reach the quarter-finals.

Had he been found guilty of using the growth hormone without a medical exemption he could have been punished with a sporting ban of up to four years.

The player’s father Dmitri told Sport Weekend he had received an injection containing ‘growth hormone’ while he was recovering from an injury in the build-up to the World Cup.
