Lucho: So much attitude!

Spain boss Luis Enrique claims ‘I don’t remember seeing so much attitude in a week as a Coach’ ahead of a ‘mythical’ debut against England.

Spain kick off both Luis Enrique’s reign and their Nations League campaign at Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening, and the new man at the helm assured his iteration on La Liga would not be ‘predictable’.

“I’ve never had any doubts in that position, but I don’t know what’ll happen in the future,” he said at a Press conference.

“We’ll enjoy this game at a stadium that is mythical, unique and magnificent. It’s special that my debut is on the Day of Asturias.

“It’s been a spectacular week and I can’t wait for the game. I have no doubts about tomorrow’s XI, but it’s true that I’ve been surprised by things I’ve seen in a good way.

“I don’t remember seeing so much attitude in a week as a Coach. It’s one thing to see them outside and another to see how they react to what you ask from them in training.

“I’m optimistic and eager to see them compete. We’re going to play on the attack, have the ball, create chances, press high and be aggressive.

“After that, we’ll see if we can find space to do what we want. The objective is to evolve, not be predictable.

“I could tell you our XI and strategy, but I’m not going to give Southgate clues. It’s been a very intense week and I’m delighted, but I’m also old school.

“We’ve done individual and collective talks. I don’t have closed methods. I do things in according with what the team need.

“The players’ attitude has been faultless. For example, they accepted the rule for phones without any qualms.”

A former Barcelona Coach, the 48-year-old then showered praise on ex-Real Madrid rival Sergio Ramos.

“When you see him compete, you understand why he’s been here for so long,” he added.

“I already knew it. He’s a great leader in any situation, a person who drags you in and out. I’m delighted with him and I hope he’ll be with us for a long time. He’s exceeded what I expected from him.”
