Girona forward Portu has not trained with the club on Friday and won’t travel to Villarreal as an exit looks likely.
Sevilla are reported to have made a €15m approach for the forward while Real Sociedad have also previously been linked.
The 26-year-old netted 11 times in 37 appearances for the Catalan club last year and was instrumental in their fine campaign.
He thrived under Coach Pablo Machin, who is now at Sevilla, and the Andalusian club had been fancied to sign him this month to bolster their attack.
The Valencia youth graduate joined Girona in 2016 and played a key role in their promotion campaign in 2017 before starring in La Liga.
He has a €20m release clause at the Montilivi but a deal may be done below this valuation.
Real Sociedad’s interest may be discontinued by their loan signing of Everton striker Sandro Ramirez while Sevilla have moved for Spartak Moscow winger Quincy Promes.
