Girona have completed the signing of Ivorian striker Seydou Doumbia, previously at Sporting CP, to strengthen their attacking options.
The Catalan club’s sporting director Quique Carcel was a long-term admirer of the 30-year-old, with rumours that a variety of attackers could depart the club.
Sevilla and Real Sociedad have been linked with attacking midfielder Portu while Uruguayan striker Cristian Stuani has been mentioned in relation to a move to French club Marseille.
“Watching Girona last season was one of my motivations to come here,” Doumbia told official club media upon his move.
Doumbia has played for a number of European clubs including Young Boys, CSKA Moscow, Roma, Newcastle United and Basel, but has never previously played in Spanish football.
