City block temporary Zinchenko exit

Manchester City will only allow Oleksandr Zinchenko to depart on a permanent deal despite Real Betis requesting a loan move, say ESPN FC.

The Ukrainian international rejected the chance to join Wolverhampton Wanderers permanently earlier this month and his agent Pere Guardiola is now seeking alternatives.

The player’s agent was in Seville last week to discuss terms with Betis, for whom he was recommended by former PSV Eindhoven teammate Andres Guardado.

Girona, a sister club of City, are also in the running for the 21-year-old as are Glasgow Celtic but it is thought Betis is the preferred destination for economic and sporting reasons.

However, ESPN now say only a permanent exit – or loan with obligation to buy – will be sanctioned by City, Diario Sport saying Los Verdiblancos have only presented a loan deal.

The versatile player can play on the left-side of midfielder or defence but started only six Premier League games last season, despite a long-term injury to Benjamin Mendy.

The Ukrainian did not feature in City’s squad to face Huddersfield at the weekend despite an injury to Kevin de Bruyne, which was thought to have stalled any departure.

Having started his career at Russian club Ufa, Zinchenko has also spent time at both Shakhtar Donestk and PSV Eindhoven.

Betis are also said by ABC de Sevilla to be targeting a new right wing-back.
