Barca’s Cillessen a Man City target

Manchester City could move for Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen following a long-term injury to Claudio Bravo.

The former Blaugrana shot-stopper ruptured his Achilles tendon in training on Monday could now face a lengthy lay-off with 20-year-old Daniel Grimshaw now set to deputise for first-choice Ederson.

Despite the market being closed for English clubs, El Mundo Deportivo say they could sign a replacement on an 'emergency loan' due to the rule of a long-term injury allowing an extra body to be added.

Cillessen, a Dutch international, has a contract at the Camp Nou running through until June 2021 and containing a €60m release clause, while it is believed he wants more first-team football.

The report suggest City may move for the shot-stopper as he would fit their style of play and provide ‘healthy competition’ for Ederson.

Cillessen, 29, joined Barca from Ajax in 2016 but has struggled to dislodge Marc-Andre Ter Stegen from the number one spot and has made just two La Liga appearances across two seasons.

In June, the goalkeeper said: “I think that I played well in the matches I had in the Copa del Rey.

“I need to wait patiently. The only thing I know is that Barcelona won't sell me.”
