Sevilla’s Corchia joins Benfica

Sevilla full-back Sebastien Corchia has joined Portuguese giants Benfica on a season-long loan deal, it has been confirmed.

The 27-year-old only joined the Andalusians last summer from Lille but featured in only 20 matches last season and has now made an early exit.

El Mundo Deportivo reported the loan deal cost the Lisbon-based giants an initial €700k while they will also cover the Frenchman’s wages for the course of the campaign.

“I'm overjoyed, and I will give everything to do good things in this great club,” Corchia told the Benfica club website.

“I'm very proud to wear this shirt, this is a huge stadium with magnificent fans and Benfica are a winning club. Winning titles is very important. It was an easy choice. It is a pleasure and an honour to defend these colours.

“I want to play as many games as possible at my highest level and help the team to win as much as possible to be able to compete for titles this season.

“At Benfica you have to be ready to give everything on the pitch and try to win because Benfica are a Club that wins.”

The return of Aleix Vidal to Sevilla is thought to have effectively ended Corchia’s spell at the club, while Miguel Layun – now at Villarreal – had also covered the position in a loan spell.
