Simeone not for Argentina – father

Diego Simeone will not be leaving his role as Atletico Madrid Coach for the Argentina national team, his father has confirmed.

Los Albiceleste endured a shambolic World Cup campaign which saw Jorge Sampaoli dismissed with the nation yet to find a replacement.

“We know that at some point he will give to the national team,” Carlos Simeone told Super Deportivo Radio, in quotes carried by ESPN FC.

“He always had respect for Argentina and made an effort to play. He has it in his head to do it.

“He still likes working weekly and the day to day, the adrenaline on a Sunday. He doesn't want to manage a game with the national team and come back five months later. For now, that's how it is.”

Simeone won 108 caps for his nation between 1988 and 2002 before starting his coaching career in Argentina, managing four sides including Buenos Aires giants River Plate.
