Costa addresses Ramos rivalry

Diego Costa asserted Sergio Ramos ‘is a great player, we’re friends and what happens on the pitch stays on it’ after their Super Cup scuffles.

“When you play against a team like Real Madrid, anything can happen; I think we played very well and we turned the game around,” Atletico Madrid’s two-goal hero said after they beat Real Madrid 4-2, reports UEFA.com.

“He’s a great player [Sergio Ramos]. We’re friends, but on the field we’re not friendly. We said jokingly that on the pitch we have to fight for what we need for our teams.

“Sergio Ramos likes to win, but I want to win too. What happens on the pitch stays on the pitch.

“I didn’t really play that match [2014 Champions League Final] and I really wanted to play a full match [Real Madrid], as happened tonight.

“I’m very happy that we won tonight – very, very happy that we won. Real Madrid have always beaten us in these Finals, and I think it was our turn.”
