Valverde: ‘High hopes’ for Dembele

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde says he has ‘high hopes’ for Ousmane Dembele this season after his Supercopa winner against Sevilla.

“The truth is that Sevilla made it complicated at first after they scored the first goal, and it was difficult to overcome them, although given how the match progressed in the second half, I thought we were closer to winning,” said the Coach after his side’s 2-1 victory in Tangier.

“They were very rounded because they started the season before us, while it was our first day of competitive action, and it ended well.

“We knew it was going to be very complicated for us. Dembele? We have high hopes for him. He has incredible qualities to cause imbalances and gives us a lot.

“We want him to take steps forward because he’s young and he still has a long way to go. Departures? I’m not thinking about them.

“My idea is to reinforce the players I have, seeing as they’re very good, and what interests me is that they are very ambitious.

“VAR? It’s fine for whistling offsides, but I hope it doesn’t affect the pace of matches.”
