Malcom tells of difficult childhood

Barcelona winger Malcom has told of the difficulties he faced to make it as a footballer growing up in Brazil

The 21-year-old was born in Sao Paulo and began his career in the youth of hometown club Corinthians.

However, he told Barca’s television channel it was hard finding the money in a poor part of the city to help his dream of becoming a professional player a reality.

“My family always come first because they did a lot for me,” the former Bordeaux man explained to FCBTV.

“They did a lot for me and no matter how much I do for them, it’s not a third of what they deserve.

“But I will try to help them, as they helped me by bringing food home and allowing me to grow.

“My grandmother even sold frying pans so I had enough money to enable to me go to training.

“One day, I told her the other kids had money so they could go training, so she sold everything she had.

“Not many people would do that. She is my second mother,” he added.
