I rejected Madrid admits Allegri

Maximiliano Allegri has confessed he turned down the chance to coach Real Madrid when approached during the summer.

The Juventus boss told Italian magazine Stile Mese that he was offered the chance to take over at the Santiago Bernabeu before the European champions appointed Julen Lopetegui, but rejected it out of hand as a mark of respect to his current employers.

“The main arguments that caused me to reject Real Madrid when they came calling were the maximum respect I have for Juventus, and the fact I wanted to keep my word,” admitted the 50-year-old.

“That was what led me to turn down Madrid, the biggest club in the world who would be the dream of any Coach, with a sense of calmness.

“I feel honoured by Madrid’s approach, but I said no because I had already given my word to Juventus President Andrea Agnelli.”

However, Allegri went on to say that he did not discount the possibility he could end up coaching Los Blancos sometime in the future.
