Everton in late Gomes move

Everton are set to make a late dash to bring out-of-favour Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes to Goodison Park.

The Mail Online has it that the Toffees are hoping to prise the Portugal international out of the clutches of West Ham United before the English transfer window closes on Thursday.

The report suggests it is unclear whether the 25-year-old would move on a permanent transfer or a loan arrangement, but Gomes is believed not to figure in the future plans of Barca boss Ernesto Valverde, while it is understood he has been keen to move to England for the past 12 months.

Gomes joined the Catalans from Valencia in 2016 in a deal worth up to €55m, but an injury sustained in pre-season last week means he could be sidelined until October, which could potentially put any transfer on hold – at least for the time being.
