Cardiff look at Victor Camarasa deal

Cardiff City have made a late move to sign Real Betis midfielder Victor Camarasa, according to reports in the Spanish press.

Marca say the newly-promoted Blubebirds want to sign the 24-year-old, who wants to stay in Seville despite the arrivals of Takashi Inui, William Carvalho and Sergio Canales this summer.

The former Levante midfielder joined Betis in a €7m deal last summer and despite not featuring in the club’s 2-1 win at Cardiff on Saturday and made only 14 starts in the league last season.

“When I first joined Betis, I knew exactly how big a club this is,” Camarasa told EFE in February, as cited by ABC de Sevilla.

“I rejected many big teams to come here and my idea is to triumph at the club and help bring us back to where we belong in Spanish football.

“My only thought is to continue here to work on our objectives and help finish the project which we have started.”

Camarasa starred for Alaves on a season-long loan deal in 2016/17, helping them to a top-half finish and a first ever Copa del Rey final, while he has previously been linked to Tottenham, West Ham and Schalke.

The midfielder featured four times for the Spain under-21 side between 2014 and 2017, while racking up 116 appearances in Spain’s top flight.
