Montoya wants Real Betis return

Defender Martin Montoya has told Valencia he wishes to leave the club and be allowed to join Real Betis, his agent has confirmed.

The 27-year-old looks set to leave the Mestalla after two seasons following the arrival of Cristiano Piccini from Sporting CP, while Italian giants Napoli have also been strongly linked.

“Martin has told Valencia he no longer wants to take part in pre-season,” his agent is cited as saying by ABC de Sevilla.

“His intention is to go to Real Betis and he has already told the Coach.”

Montoya spent the second half of the 2015-16 season on loan at Betis, where he made 13 appearances, having spent five years in Barcelona’s first-team squad.
