Jefferson Lerma returns to Levante

Midfielder Jefferson Lerma returns to Levante training today after extending his holiday following the World Cup, say Super Deporte.

Reports from Spanish press agency EFE say Bournemouth have submitted a bid of €25m for the Colombian international, who was subsequently unhappy that this was rejected.

The 23-year-old impressed for Colombia in this summer’s World Cup, featuring in all four of their matches, and this has heightened interest from the Cherries.

Earlier this month, Sky Sports News reported of the bid – a potential record sale for the Valencia-based club – but doubts over a work permit could cast doubt on a move.

Primarily a holding midfielder, Lerma has also been deployed at right-back and impressed for Levante last season, for whom he made 28 La Liga appearances.

The Colombian joined Levante from Atletico Huila in 2015 while Bournemouth have already completed the signing of full-back Diego Rico from Leganes.

Lerma’s contract at Levante is said to include a €60m release clause.
