Benzema wants to make Madrid history

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema says he wants to make history at the club where he has spent almost a decade.

The Frenchman was speaking after the sixth training session of the week under new boss Julen Lopetegui as the European champions prepare for the new season, where he also outlined his plans for the future.

“We must carry on winning titles because here the objective is to always win things together,” explained Benzema in an interview with RMTV. “On a personal level I want to do better than last year and I need to keep working to make even more history with this club.

“I never imagined winning everything I have, but I signed for Madrid to win trophies and to be a success.

“I knew I was going to have some difficult times, but that doesn’t matter because this is the best club in the world. I am very happy.”

The 30-year-old, who was left out of the France World Cup squad for Russia, also told of his first impressions of Lopetegui.

“We are doing a lot of work and things are going very well during pre-season. We know that it’s demanding but it will be good for the rest of the season.

“We know Julen is a Coach who likes to have the ball and a lot of possession. Besides that, he also does a lot on us working when we lose the ball, putting pressure on after losing it,” he said.
