Carvajal: La Roja won’t change much

Dani Carvajal believes new Spain Coach Luis Enrique will not change the style of play too much despite this summer’s World Cup disappointment.

La Roja were beaten on penalties by hosts Russia at the Last 16 stage and the Real Madrid defender gave his thoughts on what he expects when former Barcelona boss Enrique takes the reins for the first time.

“Luis has come in and he has to decide if he wants to change the style, if he wants to keep it, or modify it,” said Carvajal in an interview with BeIn Sports.

“However, with the players we have in Spain he can’t change it too much. We are players who like to have a lot of the ball, who like to move, and we are not a team that is going to play on the counter-attack. I don’t think you can modify too much a style that has worked for a lot of years.

“There are different tastes. For example, France won the World Cup playing differently. We are loyal to our ideology, with which we won two European Championships and a World Cup.

“In those tournaments it was necessary to have a bit of luck and I think that if against Russia the lottery of penalties would have gone our way, then you would have seen a very different Spain in the quarter-finals,” he maintained.
