Torres makes losing Sagan start

Former Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres joined Andres Iniesta in making a losing start to his career in Japan.

The build-up to Sagan Tosu’s visit of Vegalta Sendai on Sunday was marked by a party atmosphere, but despite Torres making his debut in the 50th minute, he was unable to prevent his new club going down 1-0.

The result leaves Sagan second from bottom in the J1 League, three points adrift of safety midway through the season.

Iniesta also suffered defeat in his first match for Vissel Kobe, who lost 3-0 to Shonan Bellmare earlier in the day.
