Cristiano Ronaldo has paid the Spanish tax authorities €13.5m and has received a two-year suspended prison sentence, say reports.
The Portuguese star, who has switched Real Madrid for Juventus this summer, will pay a total of €18.8m in combined outstanding fees and fines.
Cadena Cope say the 33-year-old has agreed to the terms in order to close the Hacienda court case and due to this being a first-time offense, he will not serve time in prison.
The first payment was said to have been made to tax authorities last week as the long-running case draws towards a verdict.
Ronaldo is alleged to have defrauded the Spanish state to the tune of €14,768,897 between 2011 and 2014.
His new pact with the Prosecutors’ Office would have seen that sum reduced to €5.7m, but ‘interest and fines’ mean the attacker must pay almost €19m back.
Barcelona rival Lionel Messi was handed a suspended 21-month jail sentence and fined €1.7m for committing tax fraud between 2007 and 2009.
