Marcelino: Gameiro a Valencia option

Valencia boss Marcelino Garcia Toral admits Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro is ‘a possibility’ for the club this summer.

Various reports have linked Los Che with the striker and a recent report in Marca said they would pay €14m up front for Gameiro, with €3m to follow in the way of bonuses.

“Gamiero? He is a possibility for us in the market,” Marcelino said, as cited by Diario AS.

“We have a group of forwards he with their own ability but Gameiro has something different and our idea is to add one forward to our squad, maybe it will be him.”

The delay in a deal being formalised appears to be Atleti’s delay in bringing in a replacement striker, with Milan’s Nikola Kalinic said to be on their radar.

The 30-year-old scored 49 goals in four seasons with Dnipro, helping the Ukrainians reach the Europa League Final in 2015, where they lost to Sevilla.

He then spent two seasons with Fiorentina, netting 33 times in 84 appearances, before signing for Milan on loan with a €25m compulsory option.

His lone campaign was one to forget as he registered just six goals for the Rossoneri, while it ended with him being sent home from Croatia’s World Cup squad.
