Leicester’s €28m bid for Getafe’s Djene

Leicester City have lodged a €28m bid for Getafe’s in-demand defender Djene Dakonam, say reports in the Spanish press.

The Togolese international has excelled for Los Azulones in his debut campaign, starting 36 La Liga games since his move from Belgian club Sint-Truden last summer.

Diario AS say the Foxes have made the offer for the 26-year-old who is said to be in high demand, with Sevilla among the leading clubs in Spain interested in his signature.

Los Rojiblancos are said to have made an initial offer of €15m but the Madrid-based club are insisting upon €25m with a further €10m in add-ons.

“The player has had important offers England but he has asked us not to listen to them, he wants to continue in Spain,” Getafe president Angel Torres is cited as saying by ABC de Sevilla

“We have promised him and his agent that we will negotiate in case of any offer from a Spanish team.”

Torres told Cadena Cope last month: “We will not sell Djene for less than his €35m clause.”

In an interview with Diario AS in February, Djene said he would be open to a move elsewhere: “I’m hopeful my work can take me to a bigger club.

“I’m happy to be here during my first season in La Liga, there is not so much pressure when you lose a game because of the club.

“The new contract has given me security over my future and right now I’m happy at the club, but who knows what will happen in the future.

“At the moment I am focused on helping Getafe obtaining our objectives this season.”

Djene previously spent two seasons in the Segunda with Alcorcon between 2014 and 2016.
