Barcelona are keen to speed up negotiations with Ajax for the transfer of midfielder Frenkie de Jong, according to reports in the Spanish press.
The 21-year-old registered seven assists from 22 Eredivisie appearances for Ajax this term and has been linked with a switch to the Camp Nou for several months.
El Mundo Deportivo now claim the Dutchman’s agent Ali Dursun has spoken to Barca negotiators Eric Abidal, Pep Segura and Robert Fernandez as a deal moves closer.
Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars – a former Barca star – is reportedly adamant the player will not leave the Dutch giants, while Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have also been linked.
Reports suggest Ajax could eventually be tempted to sell but it could be a hiked fee in the region of €40-50m.
Barca have already signed Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo while Andres Iniesta and Paulinho have departed this summer.
