‘Sevilla like Barca’s youth academy…’

Sevilla ‘are turning into Barcelona’s youth academy’ according to the Andalusian club’s Director of Football Joaquin Caparros.

Clement Lenglet’s €35m move to the Camp Nou is the latest Los Rojiblancos to switch to the Catalan giants but Caparros admitted the relationship between the clubs remained strong.

“Sevilla are now turning into Barcelona’s youth academy,” Caparros said on Cadena Ser’s El Larguero, as cited by Diario AS.

“However, we are a selling club and that is not a bad thing – we buy and sell strongly in a way which allows us to continue to grow and develop as a club, it shows our technical department is doing well.

“We did not want to lose Lenglet and we were not willing to negotiate for him and honestly, we think it would have been better for him to spend one more season here with us.

“We enjoyed having him at the club and when someone’s buyout clause is triggered, then there is nothing we can do.

“Our relationship with Barca is still good.”
