Madrid set for €35m Courtois?

Real Madrid are reportedly closing in on a €35m deal for Chelsea and Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

According to Het Laaste Nieuws, an agreement is ‘imminent’, with Courtois to sign a five-year contract worth €11m a season gross.

The report was also brought to light by Marca, which claims the Belgian will set back Madrid ‘around €35m’, given he has only a year left on his Chelsea contract and wants to leave Stamford Bridge.

“All options are open for me. I could also stay at Chelsea,” he said after his country’s 2-0 win against England during Saturday’s World Cup third-place playoff.

“People always complain that players don’t fulfil their contracts, but maybe they do.

“I don’t think they’ll keep someone with my qualities on the bench, even if I don’t sign a renewal.”

The 26-year-old played for Madrid’s city rivals Atletico between 2011 and 2014, winning a Liga title with Diego Simeone’s side.

He is also on record as admitting he would like a return to the Spanish capital in order to be closer to his two children.

It comes on the same day that the European champions seemingly left the path clear for Liverpool to make their move for Roma shot-stopper Alisson.
