Madrid want Valencia’s Rodrigo

Julen Lopetegui has requested Real Madrid attempt to sign Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno this summer, say reports in Spain.

The European champions are seeking to replace Cristiano Ronaldo this summer and Lopetegui has identified Rodrigo, for whom he linked up with in the Spanish national squad.

The 27-year-old netted 16 goals in 31 La Liga starts at the Mestalla last season and has been included in Julen Lopetegui’s 23-man Spain squad for the World Cup.

Diario AS cite a report from Cadena Ser that Rodrigo is now a prime target for Madrid, under Lopetegui’s instruction, while he has also been linked to Atletico Madrid and Napoli.

The report in AS quotes the striker as saying: “My idea is to continue at Valencia, we have enjoyed a strong season and now are looking forward to the Champions League. I am happy here.”

The former Benfica striker, who started his career at the Bernabeu and had a spell at Bolton Wanderers, was the second highest Spanish scorer in La Liga this season, behind Celta Vigo’s Iago Aspas.
