La Liga chief Javier Tebas has calmed fears over Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Spain and claimed ‘Madrid are bigger than Cristiano Ronaldo’.
The Portuguese star’s move to Italian champion Juventus was confirmed on Tuesday, bringing an end to a period where Ronaldo netted 450 times across nine seasons for Madrid.
“Because of our work the past few years, these moves do not have as big an impact,” Tebas told an interview with Marca.
“A few years ago I would have been worried nine out of 10 but now it’s just a four out of 10, it’s not the same blow.
“We do not depend on individuals or the transfer market as we did in the past and La Liga is bigger than any individual player, while Madrid are bigger than just Cristiano Ronaldo’s brand.”
