Onda Cero: Spain choose Luis Enrique

Spain have chosen former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique to become their next Coach following the exit of Fernando Hierro, say reports in Spain.

Onda Cero say Enrique, who has also formerly coached Roma and Celta Vigo, will be the permanent boss of La Roja for the qualification campaign for the 2020 European Championships.

The Spanish FA confirmed earlier on Monday that former Villarreal boss Jose Francisco Molina has been appointed as the new sporting director, following the exit of Hierro.

This follows from reports in Diario AS that Enrique was favourite for the management job while Quique Sanchez Flores, Paco Jemez and Pepe Mel were also in the running.

Belgium’s Roberto Martinez, who was born in the Catalan province of Lleida, would also be a candidate, although an unnamed ‘federal’ source claims the Coach has not been contacted due to his ongoing commitments with the Red Devils.
