Griezmann insists ‘I feel Uruguayan’

Antoine Griezmann has insisted he ‘feels Uruguayan’ ahead of facing the nation in the World Cup quarter-finals with France.

The 27-year-old claimed he felt Uruguayan due to teammates at club level, in claims that were rubbished by Barcelona striker Luis Suarez, while they regularly consume traditional Uruguayan drinks.

“A real Uruguay fan? Yes of course, I have many friends who for them,” Griezmann is cited as saying by L’Equipe.

“I even asked (Atletico teammate) Diego Godin for one of Edinson Cavani’s shirts and now I have it!

“Furthermore, the Uruguayan flag has been the picture in my WhatsApp profile.

“At Real Sociedad, Martin Lasarte was Uruguayan. And when I started in the first team, there was another Uruguayan striker, Carlos Bueno.

“We naturally moved closer to each other. We both played in attack. He would often bring me back to work or pick me up in the morning because I did not have a car at the time.”
