Canales joins Betis on four-year deal

Real Betis have completed the signing of winger Sergio Canales from Real Sociedad on a four-year contract, it has been confirmed.

The former Real Madrid man has regained his form this season, scoring five goals and assisting 11 in 45 appearances for La Real in 2017-18.

Canales was considered one of Spain’s brightest prospects when he broke through at Racing Santander during the 09-10 campaign.

He went on sign for Real Madrid but failed to build on his potential, before embarking on an injury-ravaged spell at Valencia.

The 27-year-old moved to La Real in 2014 and has managed to play more than 150 times in San Sebastian, despite an ACL injury disrupting his second season.

He has been capped by Spain at Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, while he helped his side win the European Under-17 and Under-21 Championships.

Canales has become Betis’ second signing of the summer after Eibar midfielder Takashu Inui while Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez is also close to joining.
