Tebas: Spain to blame on Lopetegui

La Liga chief Javier Tebas has criticised the Spanish FA’s decision to dismiss Julen Lopetegui on the eve of the World Cup.

Luis Rubiales opted to dismiss the Coach after it emerged the previous day that he had agreed to join Real Madrid, without the consent or knowledge of the FA.

“It (the penalty shootout defeat) was a sad day for Spanish football,” Tebas told an interview with Diario AS.

“We had much higher expectations than this stage and we believed in the quality of the team.

“It is impossible to know if Lopetegui’s departure was a damaging influence or not but the decision seemed too hasty, regardless of how Real Madrid acted.

“Ronaldo’s future? He is in the top two players in the world for sure and in my position, of course I want the best players to continue playing in Spain.”
