Lenglet tells Sevilla: I’m joining Barca

Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet has informed the club he is joining Barcelona and a move should be complete this week, say reports.

The Frenchman has been linked with a move to the Catalan giants all summer and reports across the Spanish press state a move is imminent, with Sevilla signing Red Bull Salzburg defender Duje Caleta-Ca in his place.

Diario Sport reported last week the Blaugrana have decided to activate Lenglet’s release clause and he will provide competition for Samuel Umtiti and Gerard Pique next season.

Marca and ABC de Sevilla also say the central defender is in Seville on Tuesday to help formalise the transfer.

The 22-year-old has impressed for Los Rojiblancos in a turbulent season for the club, helping guide them to the Copa del Rey final and last eight of the Champions League.

Lenglet was the penultimate arrival at the Andalusian club under sporting director Monchi, signing from Ligue 1 outfit Nancy in January 2017.

His current deal at the club expires in June 2021 but his current minimum release clause stands at €35m – seen as an affordable price for many leading clubs who may be interested in his services.

Cadena Cope had reported an agreement to join the Catalan giants and will sign a five-year contract last month, but no deal was said to be finalised.

Barca central defender Umtiti recently penned a new long-term deal at the club, while Lenglet’s talks with new Sevilla Coach Pablo Machin took place at the start of June.
