Toni Kroos on United’s radar

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has emerged as a summer target for Manchester United, according to reports in Spain.

A report in Diario AS states United boss Jose Mourinho has held extensive talks with the club’s chief executive Ed Woodward regarding the Germany international.

The Germany international has been earmarked by Mourinho as a replacement for Michael Carrick, who retired at the end of the season and will now join the club’s coaching staff.

The report states the United staff believe the former Bayern Munich midfielder would compliment Paul Pogba and significantly improve the team in possession.

The Red Devils were interested in 28-year-old Kroos four years ago but pulled out of a deal to sign him from Bayern, yet their interest is understood to have been revived after the player allegedly indicated he may be open to a switch to Old Trafford.

The central midfielder has won two Champions League crowns and a La Liga title in a trophy-laden spell at the Santiago Bernabeu, forming a key partnership with Luka Modric.

Madrid are said to be unwilling to sell the German under any circumstances and he has a reported €500m release clause.
