Achraf: I’ll talk to Lopetegui

Achraf Hakimi says he will talk to new Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui about his future ‘and see what’s best for me’.

Achraf faced several of his Madrid teammates during Morocco’s 2-2 draw with Spain on Monday, which was his country’s final involvement at the World Cup, although his search for regular first-team football could take him away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

“We leave here very happy for the work we’ve done, not only against Spain but also throughout the World Cup. I’m very proud of the team and our fans,” he said after the game.

“I wasn’t surprised by how good they were. They played very well, but we tried to make it difficult for them and we’re happy with how we did.

“Playing against my clubmates? We cracked some jokes, but it went very well. We greeted each other and I wish them the best for what’s left of the World Cup.

“VAR? I do’t know if it hurt us, but it wasn’t fair to both teams, not only today but also in other games. It should’ve been used in other controversial incidents. It was only used once for them.

“Lopetegui and whether I’ll stay at Madrid? It caught us by surprise, not only myself but I think all you guys too.

“I have to go back to Madrid and talk to him. I want to stay, they’re the club of my life and I’m happy, but we’ll see what happens.

“I’ll talk to the Coach and see what’s best for me.”
