Simeone: ‘Messi very good but Ronaldo…’

Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone has inadvertently reopened the debate between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in a leaked audio tape.

Speaking to his Atleti assistant German Burgos, Simeone doubted Messi’s role in the Argentina national team – who had just lost 3-0 to Croatia – and compared him to Ronaldo in a ‘normal team’.

“Messi is very good, but he is very good because he plays alongside extraordinary players,” Simeone comments on the leaked tape.

“If you had to choose between Messi and Ronaldo for a normal team, who would you choose?”

Simeone also commented on ‘anarchy’ within the dressing room of his national team: “I do not see anyone leading, it is anarchy and not leadership. I see a team who is lost.

“It is clear that in the dressing room players are holding on to fists but in these situations, you need someone to fight.

“We all say the players are the most important part of the game and the Coach usually play it down when players mess it up, but the Coach is also participating in this.”
