Valencia ‘reach Gameiro agreement’

Valencia are closing in on a €15m agreement with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of striker Kevin Gameiro, say reports in Spain.

El Confidencial report the Frenchman will be the first exit from Los Rojiblancos, who need to raise cash to balance the arrivals of Thomas Lemar from Atletico Madrid and Villarreal’s Rodri.

The report continues that Sime Vrsaljko and Stefan Savic are also expected to leave the Madrid-based club this summer.

Gameiro, 31, joined Los Rojiblancos from Sevilla in the summer of 2016 but has struggled to nail down a regular first-team place in Diego Simeone’s side.

The former Paris Saint-Germain striker has found himself behind Antoine Griezmann and January signing Diego Costa in the pecking order, while earlier this week reports in France linked him to moves to Lyon and Saint-Etienne.

Gameiro has netted 27 goals across his two seasons with Atleti but only started in 11 La Liga matches this campaign.

Fernando Torres has already left the club on a free transfer but Griezmann has committed his long-term future to the club in a new contract.
