Sergio Ramos hit back at Diego Maradona, who is ‘light years away from Lionel Messi’, and accused Iran of ‘time-wasting’ during their 1-0 defeat to Spain.
Ramos was responding to Maradona’s claim before the World Cup match on Wednesday that Ramos could not be considered a ‘crack’ unlike his Atletico Madrid and Uruguay rival Diego Godin.
“Maradona was a ‘crack’, but in Argentina they know that he’s light years away from the best Argentine player in history, who for me is Leo Messi,” the defender said after the game.
"We leave here happy, we’ve taken another step forward. Now we have to try to top our group, it’s our objective. I still think we can improve in all aspects.
“VAR? They practically whistled us for everything, so you have to try to keep your head cool because there’s the VAR, who will run the rule over many moves and incidents.
“Iran’s style? They went out to waste time, whereas we like to win in a different way.”
