Union: Ronaldo fine too low

Spanish tax authorities believe the reported €18.8m agreement with Cristiano Ronaldo for alleged tax evasion ‘should be higher’.

The Portuguese star reached a mutual agreement with tax prosecutors which would see the player admit offence over declaration of image rights and agree to pay the sum.

“The fines should be higher, and we believe this should be revalued,” read a statement from the Gestha union, as cited by Europa Press.

“In recognition of the volume of the charges, the fines should be higher while his legal and financial advisers, who drew up the plan to evade tax, helped these crimes.”

Ronaldo stands accused of evading €14.7m in taxes due on image rights revenue between 2011 and 2014 with the reported deal not including any implication for his advisers.
