OFFICIAL: Bielsa appointed at Leeds

Leeds United have confirmed the appointment of former Espanyol and Athletic Club Bilbao Coach Marcelo Bielsa as their new head coach on a three-year deal.

The 62-year-old has a distinguished coaching career in charge of both the Argentina and Chile national sides alongside Marseille and Lazio.

Bielsa guided Athletic to the Europa League final in 2012 before falling to defeat to Atletico Madrid, with a total of 43 victories in his 112 matches in charge.

The Argentine-native also spent just nine games on the bench for Espanyol in 1998, while he managed just 19 matches at Lille and not one for Lazio, whom he left after two days.

Seen as a tactical trail-blazer for his insistence for high-pressing and making famous a 3–3–3–1 formation, with the likes of Gerardo Martino, Mauricio Pochettino, Diego Simeone, Matías Almeyda, Eduardo Berizzo, Mauricio Pellegrino and Marcelo Gallardo viewed as his disciples.
